best of introduction: the little book of semaphores

Today i was reading the producer consumer problem in the little book of semaphores and i come up to the following funny statement of the author:

In this chapter we examine the classical problems…….

…For the most part, though, these problems do not happen in the real world, or if they do, the real-world solutions are not much like the kind of synchronization….

Are we really so far away from real-life?
